If you’re reading this, you’re already on my portfolio website so you can see that I can build a website. I have used many different website creation platforms, my two favorites include Wix and WordPress, for different reasons. However, there’s a pretty big difference between building a website and coding a website.
Once you understand HTML and CSS you have so many options available and I believe that it’s such an important skill set to have in today’s world. Because of that, I took the time to learn how to write basic HTML and CSS utilizing responsive code to adjust from desktop to mobile devices and following the WebAIM guidelines for accessibility.
In my current position, all web updates are completed within a web manager, but knowing HTML and CSS have been invaluable in properly making those updates and keeping the source code clean and organized.
When working on a site update, I take the time to evaluate my strategic marketing plan, how this site will help achieve those goals and especially who my target market is for the page. I then base the layout and content on those factors and ensure all of the creation falls within the overarching university brand as well as the sub brand created for the area and includes the ideal SEO terms.
Below is an example of taking a previously dated page and updating it to the current target markets for a new climbing facility.
